Grammar Notes

The suffix -mak can also used to create the noun form of a verb. In practice there are two ways to form the noun form of a verb:

  • buluşmak
    to meet up
  • buluşmayı
    to meet up
  • Çalışmak istiyorum.
    I want to work.
  • Çalışmayı seviyorum.
    I like to work.
The -mak suffix is used to form the infinitive when it is the subject of a sentence, and when used with the verb istiyorum / istiyorsun (I like to / you like to).

The -mayı suffix is used to form the infinitive when it is the object of a verb (other than istiyorum / istiyorsun).
