Indicative Sentences

Turkish sentences follow a [subject] [object] [verb] word order.

John kahve içiyor. - John is drinking coffee.
Ben bir kalem arıyorum. - I am looking for a pen.


Adverbs and prepositional phrases also typically come before the verb. Turkish sentences typically always end with the verb in the last position.

Ben İstanbul'da oturuyorum. - I live in Istanbul.
İki yıl önce Türkiye'ye geldim. I came to Turkey two years ago.
John, Mary ile konuşuyor. John is speaking with Mary.


Typically, the subject of a sentences is omitted where it can be inferred from context, or from the conjugation of the verb.

Seni seviyorum. - I love you.
Burada çalışıyoruz. - We work here.
